Labor Shortage & Automation Part 1: Is it Time to Revisit Logistics Technology?

This blog is part of the Labor Shortage and Automation series. Click here to read Part 2 and Part 3.

Remember where technology was 10 years ago? Smartphones didn’t have GPS, Uber and Lyft weren’t an option, and the iPad was waiting to be created. Technology was available, but it was expensive and less capable. Fast forward to 2018, we see the technology world growing with no slowdown in sight. Technology continues to improve, and while it may feel like we are spending more, technology capabilities continue to decline in price.

While technology is becoming more available and less expensive, the opposite is true of the work force. With the US unemployment rate continuing to remain low, most companies are struggling to find qualified workers. For the logistics, warehouse, and cold storage industry, it could be time to assess your facility technology. While technology is not always the answer, this may be the ideal time to revisit your current facility technology for possible upgrades.
